Where Do Chickens Lay Eggs?

I have eight laying boxes set up in my chicken house. They have a tendency to just use one or two.
Because I gather all the eggs and because my chickens get free run of the whole yard, they'll hide their nests sometimes.
Sometimes when I'm out working in the yard, you'll find a whole nest of 18 eggs. The way you find out whether those eggs are good or not, you bring them in, put them in a pot of water, and the good ones sink and the bad ones float.
The bad ones we just throw in the compost pile and the other ones, we scramble them up and feed them to the dogs or we feed scrambled eggs to the chickens. Nothing goes to waste here.
