... as they come home to roost, and I find it's very wise every night to count my chickens, see if one is outside.
Sometimes they'll get off and they're trying to sit on the eggs that they've hidden out. They do come in to roost.

When you get new chickens, it's best to put them in the chicken house at night and introduce them that way because then when they wake up in the morning they're in a whole new world, but they know that that's where they're supposed to roost.
Generally, maybe not the first night they won't necessarily they'll land, but from then on. Once they realize that's their place, then they do.
