Description

The Rhode Island Homestead XL run extension will provide extra space to increase your flock size or just give more room to your current flock. This run extension was specifically designed for our Rhode Island Homestead Coop, however, it can be fashioned for other coops. The run is 50.5 inches tall x 39.5 inches wide x 101.5 inches long.

There are three roosting rods included and designed not only for your hens to roost but also to add stability to the run. Instructions walk you through the simple process of assembly (each individual piece is labeled and we pre-drilled holes for you). In addition there is a door in the run that has a bolt latch and two latches with two carabiners. Run Foot print: 39.5 inches x 101.5 inches.

The XL run extension has a door panel and on the end panel,  half the panel is a door. This makes cleaning the run a cinch and helps in free ranging.

Easy Assembly Instructions (Note since this video we have added a door under each nesting box and the end panel of the run is half a door for easy cleaning)

    Final Suggestions:

Since they are made of wood and will be outside 24/7, we STRONGLY recommend that you stain, lacquer, or paint your coop. The stain applied is a base coat that is not designed to protect your coop long term from the elements.  Often in transit parts can get dinged or scratched etc. You may need to touch up your coop before staining or painting it! Once set up we recommend anchoring it down, this can be as simple as a stake on each side of the hen house and run area.

As much as we have tried to predator proof our coops, you know your area best and you may want to put wire around your coop, or put pavers. You'll always want to double check hardware and latches to make sure everything is tight and secure. Larger predators like bears you will want to look at installing an electric fence around the perimeter.

XL run extension ships in one 87-pound box that measures 40x13x52 inches.

Why choose The Chicken Coop Company?

    Materials

Wood: Fir - the same wood most houses are made of. It is resilient against insects and weather while being light enough for an enjoyable assembly experience. Many other alternatives like Cedar split too easily or are too heavy. After 9 years of using Fir, it has proven to be the ideal material.

    Top Quality Construction

Quality Hardware, Tongue and Groove panels and more.

    Easy to Assemble

Your chicken Run has been pre-assembled in flat panels that simply need to be bolted together with a screwdriver and wrench. All cutting, gluing, stapling, finishing, and hardware installation have already been done for you. Enjoy!

    Well Engineered

Structural Reinforcements, Quality Hardware, Purpose-Built Accessories and More.  The difference is in the details...

Note: We have since added additional doors below each nesting box as well as to the end panel of the run

A few additional points to consider:
You are sure to love the doors under each nesting box for easy access to the space under the hen house. This allows for easy cleaning and for letting the girls in and out. The run has a door panel and on the runs end panel half the panel is a door. This makes cleaning the run a cinch and helps in free ranging.
Chicken coop with a run extension has flashing above the nesting box roof lids to prevent water from running into the nesting box
Carabiners and other hardware are heavy duty stainless steel
Easy to clean pull out tray to catch their waste and keep things clean
Our amazing coop has multiple vents providing important airflow in the chicken house
Each panel has four additional diagonal wooden support pieces
We sell hen houses and runs separately allowing you to customize and expand your set up
Run extension/support under each nesting box (without support the nesting boxes sag and quickly fall apart
EVERY piece is labeled and our instructions are thorough and written by us =)
THICK nest box dividers (twice the thickness of most other coops)
    Well constructed ladder
Acrylic sliding window rather than wood which can shrink or expand and make it difficult to open the windows/vents
Hard plastic liner under all roof panels for durability and weatherproofing
We use strong chicken wire mesh (twice as thick as most other coops) with small holes to keep predators out
We use heavy duty hardware (Ajustlock bolt latches!)

The original Rhode Island Homestead Chicken Coop is solid!

One of the things you will notice is that our chicken run EXTENDS under each nesting box. More than providing additional space for your hens, this is CRITICAL as it gives support for the nesting box (this may seem minor, however, without the support the nesting boxes will sag after a short period of time).

In the picture below you can see the coop size difference between the Rhode Island Homestead XL and the Orpington Lodge. Very similar design just different in size.

Keep in mind, you can purchase additional run extensions and additional hen houses if you would like to expand and customize your coop space!
